Arunachal Adventures XI – Quality rafting down the Subansiri preceded by a road safari to Ziro and then Daporijo and time amongst the Apatinis, Hillmiris, Nishis and other tribes. A superb five days of tough and demanding white water running. Angling for those that want.
1. Intention. To carry our love for adventure even further by white water running down the turbulent and exciting Subansiri in the heart of its headwaters region. To also spend time with and study the the Apatinis, Hillmiris, Nishis and other tribals of the wonderland that is Arunachal Pradesh. To raft down the great Subansiri. To delight in nature at her un-spoilt best in her green and rocky glory. In fact to see a great and different eco system alive. To revel in nature’s grandeur as adventure alone offers us a chance to do.

2. Duration. 12 grand days of the best of adventures in Arunachal Pradesh. Add three to four days for Delhi and visits to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, etc. This trip requires special preparations and so please register at least four to five months in advance. Restricted Area or Inner Line permits will be obtained by us as also mentioned in 8 (b) below.

3. Modes of Transportation. . By road from Guwahati/Tezpur into the foothills upto Itanagar. Then a Road safari to Daporizo via Ziro and rafting from upstream of Daporizo till after Dolungmukh. Road move thereafter to Kaziranga National Park then back to Delhi by air via Guwahati.

4. Best time. Mid Sep to mid-Dec and then from Feb to early/mid-May.

5. Age Profile. 18 years upwards, as per fitness.

6. Broad Itinerary.(Refer Map)

(a) Arrive at Delhi, received, halt over at hotel to rest and recoup. Sightseeing in Delhi and a one day outing to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, etc. Flight to Guwahati and night over. Next day move to Bomdila by road. (Alternative of flight to Calcutta and transfer to flight to Tezpur will also be examined if the dates match flight schedules).

(b) Sub-Part I. At Itanagar we spend two nights and a day absorbing a culture new to us and its history. The next day a road safari starts and we reach Ziro where we spend a day with the amazing Apatani tribals in their villages around Ziro. Then we take a day to move to Daporijo visiting many tribal villages on the way and there we spend a day seeing Daporijo and its people and also in preparing for the great rafting experience in the days ahead. (Total 6 days in Arunachal).

(c) Sub-Part II. The rafting now starts from Taliha, upriver of Daporijo. An entirely different challenge from other adventure, we will find the river is great fun. The first day itself on our way to Sippi there are rapids of class III+/IV types, and these interesting and demanding rapids continue the next day when we halt again at Daporijo. The third day sees us through a longish gorge and some rapids until we at last reach the confluence of the Subansiri with its fantastic tributary, Kamla. The fourth day we camp at Yeramukh and soon on the fifth day we bid adieu to the river and the rafts not long after Dolungmukh and make it to Jorhat by road, crossing the long and beautiful Majuli Island in the Brahmaputra and after also traveling in a ferry. A day in the Kaziranga National Park follows to let us complete our tryst with the Rhinos. Night over at the National Park and we next fly back to Delhi from Guwahati. (6 days of fun, including the rafting and the trip to Kaziranga).

(d) A brief halt at Delhi and the flight back home is taken with plans for the next adventure trip in other parts of the very special Arunachal Pradesh or elsewhere in India already taking shape in the mind

(e) A brief halt at Delhi and the flight back home is taken, but with plans for the next adventure trip to other parts of our special Arunachal Pradesh or adventures in other parts of the hitherto not well known North-East already taking shape in the mind.

7. Accommodation and Cuisine.This will be a mix of hotels, rest houses/inspection bungalows, camps in tents, the odd home stay where viable. Changes can be made to suit specific participant requirements. Cuisine. Mainly Indian, with due care and regard to sensitivity to spices. Chinese or Tibetan fares are options.

8. Cost of Basic Itinerary above (Delhi airport back to Delhi airport).

(a) Our plans are all inclusive in India and based on a group of about 10 for the basic itinerary suggested above. This includes airport transfers, hotel and basic sightseeing costs at Delhi, Agra and at all halts in Arunachal Pradesh, domestic air fares within India, tips, accommodation (twin sharing), water and all meals. It also includes all costs of treks/rafts including costs of English speaking trek leaders, guides and rafting boat-masters, equipment, porters and ponies, entry fees at various places/parks, road transport in exclusive jeeps, government royalties, and the costs of any special clothing that you want us to arrange for the duration of the trip which can be indicated to us when registering. However international air-fares, airport taxes, visa charges, duty on any items and personal expenditure such as drinks, laundry, tobacco, phone calls, camera charges where applicable and individual expenses incurred away from the plan for the group are excluded.

(b) Registration. This trip is in the midst of the peak tourist season and in particular requires special preparations. Hence it is essential that Registration be done at least four to five months prior to arrival. Half the determined costs to be paid on registration and the balance to be paid a clear two months prior to arrival.
