The Festival Caravans – Adventurous options to explore a few of Rajasthan’s Fairs and Festivals.
Note: Your travel dates of the Festival Caravans have to be pre-determined as the dates of all the fairs are pre-decided being mostly based on the lunar calendar.
Festival Caravan IV – Rajasthan at festival time. Cover east, west and central Rajasthan when the Desert Festival is on.
Note: Alertness and care with the animals is a must at all times.
1. Intention. . To relish the adventure of being in Rajasthan’s vast outdoors and also witness the festivals of Jaisalmer and Bharatpur as part of the exciting excursion.

2. Duration. 09 Feb 2008 to 24 Feb 2008 – 16 superb days in India, 14 of them dedicated to Rajasthan. The dates are fixed in view of the dates of the festivals. Hence registration requests must be made at least four to five months in advance.

3. Modes of the ride/transportation. A super mix of road safaris, long horse safaris, shorter camel safari and bus hops between some places.

4. Best time. For these festivals as indicated in Para 2 above. In general for Rajasthan the best time is October to mid March.

5. Age Profile. 15 years upwards, as per fitness.

6. Broad Itinerary. (Refer Map)

(a) Sub-Part I. Arrive at Delhi, received, halt over at hotel to rest and recoup. If group arrival is on 09 Feb sightseeing in Delhi and a one day outing to Agra to see the Taj Mahal on 10 Feb. If group arrival is on 10 Feb sightseeing is limited to Delhi. We catch the morning flight to Udaipur on 11 Feb. Two days and nights at Udaipur to see the amazingly beautiful city and immerse ourselves in its history and heritage. A half day trip to Chittaurgarh Fort is included. An early morning departure for Ranakpur where we see the Temples and meet our companions for the next four days - the superb Marwari horses. After lunch we embark on the first ride to the beautiful Kumbalgarh Fort near which we halt for the night. Descending next through the Aravallis we enter the Marwar plains and ride on for four more days to near Jodhpur which we reach after a morning road hop on 17 Feb. A night over at Jodhpur and on 18 Feb we head by road for Jaisalmer. (Total 8 nights after leaving Delhi).

(b) Sub-Part II. We are in Jaisalmer till the morning of 20 Feb on which day we leave by road for Bikaner, having participated in the Desert Festival the previous day. A night halt at Bikaner and we turn towards Jaipur but on the way spend a few hours in the Shekawati. It is late into Jaipur so we give it a day and another night and early on the 23 Feb we head for Bharatpur to catch some of the action in the festival there. A night over and early the next morning on 24 Feb the Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary fascinates us before we wind up and post an early lunch are off to Delhi. (Total 6 nights).

(c) Sub-Part III. . Reaching Delhi we head for the airport to catch the night flight home with plans for the next adventure trip to other parts of the colourful and superb Rajasthan already taking shape in the mind.

7. Accommodation. This will be a mix of hotels, heritage locations, tents both luxurious and small, home stays and the odd night under the stars. Changes can be made to suit specific participant requirements.

8. Cost of Basic Itinerary above (Delhi airport back to Delhi airport).

(a) Our plans are all inclusive in India and based on a group of 10 or more for the basic itinerary suggested above. This includes airport transfers, hotel and basic sightseeing costs at Delhi, Agra and at all halts in Rajasthan en route, train fare, costs of the horse and/or camel rides, costs of bike rentals and service and maintenance throughout the trip, tips, accommodation (twin sharing), water and all meals. However international air-fares, airport taxes, visa charges, duty on any items and personal expenditure such as drinks, laundry, tobacco, telephone charges, camera charges where applicable and individual expenses incurred away from the plan for the group are excluded. Costing details based in finalized plans on request.

(b) Registration.. As winter is the peak tourist period it is essential that Registration be done at least four to five months prior to arrival. Half the determined costs of this Caravan to be paid on registration and the balance to be paid six weeks prior to arrival.
